Evaluation process and selection of papers
All manuscripts submitted for CTS publication undergo editorial evaluation. There are three predominant writing formats in our publications: articles, editorials and notes. Articles are original, unpublished and substantive contributions to the field of discussion on Social Theory or related fields; editorials are texts written by guest editors or the editorial collective that address a concern or problem that justifies the edited issue; notes may consist of reflections on a specific object or book (review style) or present preliminary theoretical speculations or other types of reflections in a shorter format. In addition, our journal is open to contributions in other formats, in particular, interviews, experiments, photo-essays and manifestos. The inclusion of these latter types of contributions is subject to prior conversations with the journal's editorial staff (via [email protected]), to agree on their relevance for the issue in question and their precise form of execution.
- All manuscripts sent to the journal will be received by the editorial assistant, who will acknowledge receipt of the contribution within a maximum period of two weeks. In a first phase, a general review will be made to verify its thematic relevance and its adequacy to the format of the journal. If the text received does not comply with these basic aspects, it will not pass to the next stage of evaluation and will be rejected.
- The pre-selected contributions are sent to two evaluators under the double-blind modality, where the quality of the text and its contribution is judged. Potential reviewers will be sought, in the first instance, among members of the editorial staff or the external scientific board. If there are no specialists in the area of the manuscript in this group, external reviewers will be invited to carry out the review.
- The reviewers will follow an evaluation form and may suggest: Accept without changes, Accept with minor changes, Accept subject to substantive changes, or reject. Upon receiving the evaluations of both peers, the journal editor or editors in charge of the issue, prepares an opinion considering the evaluations of the peers. In case of discrepancy during the process, the editor of the journal, in conversation with the editorial staff, will make a decision. The opinion is communicated to the authors, as well as to the comment sheets submitted by the peer reviewers.
- In the case of articles that are requested to be adjusted, their authors must make and send the modifications to the journal within a period of two weeks, to then be submitted to a new round of review.
- The review of corrected articles consists of a second reading by at least one of the evaluators of the first round, who will proceed to verify if the comments made were considered and, based on this verification, will recommend or not the publication of the text. The final result of this second round will be communicated to the authors as appropriate, indicating the reasons for each decision.
- Manuscripts that are accepted will be sent by the style editor, who will suggest modifications. These suggestions must be approved by the authors before the article is sent to production and design.
