This text explores the intellectual context and the main theses of the book Latin American Dependent Capitalism (1971) by the Brazilian sociologist and revolutionary intellectual Vânia Bambirra. In particular, it reviews the validity of the typology of dependency developed by Bambirra and discusses the value of her diagnoses regarding the relations of dependency with the central economies that Latin American countries still maintain.
