In this contribution I describe the main keys to understanding the concept of "collective subjectivity" as an alternative to the analytical bifurcation between "agency" and "structure" that dominates an important part of the sociological imagination. To this end, I trace the intellectual sources of the sociological tradition that nourish the concept and the way in which the theorization of collective subjectivity has allowed me to approach the explanation of the processes of social reproduction in a non-reductionist way. I conclude by reflecting on the significance of this conceptual strategy in relation to the work involved in doing sociological theory from Latin America.
