Rosa's Romantic Supplement to Archer's Analytical Schematic

Abstract

Margaret Archer's and Hartmut Rosa's theories of individual identity formation stem from different theoretical foundations and sociological concerns, but they arrive at a similar framework of a three-phase interplay between individuals and the world. This convergence not only allows for a comparison of the reciprocal interaction between the individual and the world but also has significant implications for both theories. It helps fill a gap in Archer's analysis of the morphogenesis of agency and offers a refinement of Rosa's concept of the experience of resonance. It accounts for a relationship between individuals, the historical events of their time, and the structural morphogenesis that can generate sociological expectations.
